They used it for a long time, until someone decided that a pictographic logo was the sign of the careless imprudence that buried so many dot-coms in the years following 1999.
Chameleons
The skin of a website, more than ever, has become the mark of creed that determines its destiny.
This explains Nextag's latest design revision. As you can see, it blends in well with the hide of a notorious valley lizard, Google,

and is also very harmonious with that well-known dinosaur, Ebay. It's as if at some point someone decided that, if service marks were only going to have text in them,
they should at least be colorful. And then BAM! - the Web became a handful of chameleons using rainbows to resist the inherent dullness of text-only service marks. It's unfortunate they all decided to use the same trichromatic rainbow.
